My Story

Seams Sustainable started as a home-based, woman owned artwear business founded with the following goals in mind:  1) economical and ecological re-use of fabrics and softgoods; 2) sewing new garments from natural fiber fabrics; 3) re-purposing and upcycling used garments into new wearable art; and 4) promoting and teaching sewing as a sustainable living skill.

I've been sewing for a very long time, having learned in a junior high home ec class.  During this time, I've made many, many dresses and costumes.  Some of my favorites have been elaborate medieval gowns, a Victorian walking suit, and many award-winning dance costumes and tutus for my daughter, one of which was a restyle of my mother's wedding gown.

My Etsy shop was the first jewel in the crown, and began as a means of selling some of my creations from upcycled thrift finds, but has since become mostly a place for vintage and used sewing patterns and interesting sewing finds. From there, I’ve expanded to Redbubble to sell my graphic designs on apparel and household goods, and PicFair for original photography, as well as Poshmark, recycling awesome apparel thrift finds!

I love retro fashion and vintage finds, so when not sewing, designing, or taking photos, you can find me at flea markets, yard and estate sales, thrift shops and any other place one finds the interesting and re-usable!
